Selena

Selena was so sweet and so heartbreakingly pitiful when we first got her out of the Tipton Shelter. Based on paperwork from the person who surrendered her to the shelter, Selena had been suffering from extreme diarrhea and the person had taken her to a vet for a fecal (which was negative and the vet prescribed endosorb). When that didn't help, and perhaps not having the resources to continue trying to get a diagnosis, she just surrendered Selena to the shelter. Selena's case was extreme - she was dehydrated, underweight and leaking feces when we got her. We too got a negative fecal when we took her to the vet so we first tried 3 days of panacur (wormer) and then ten days of a metronidazole/albon mixture which usually is our golden bullet for diarrhea of unknown origin along with prescription Hill's Biome food. Nothing worked, Selena showed no improvement and we were really getting worried! Then Whitney, our astute medical manager, suggested that Selena might have campylobacter, an intestinal bacteria that could have been passed to Selena from her mother or by ingesting tainted water, and wouldn't have been treated by any of the medications we'd tried so far. So we started Selena on clindamycin and within a few days, she finally stopped leaking diarrhea and started getting better! Once that course of antibiotics was complete, Selena was like a completely different kitten - happy, playful, eating with gusto and screaming for attention!

Around this time I got a message from Jaz, who is a former Purrfect Match volunteer and forever Purrfect Match friend. She recently had to say goodbye to her beloved cat of 20+ years, Cuey, who had accompanied her through so many stages of life and whose loss had left a tremendous absence. Jazmine's heart needed some healing by way of a new kitty friend so we set up a time for Jaz and her husband Richard to come to MeowHouse to see if her new heart cat was there. They met multiple kitties that we thought might be good matches for the other kitties they have at home, but when Jaz opened Selena's kennel and she promptly jumped onto her shoulder and settled in, something Cuey used to do, the decision was made. Selena, now Ouija, has been home with Jaz and Richard for over a month now bringing joy and brightening up dark corners like only a young kitty can! Jaz says this:

"She is doing so great and I have fallen in love with her! She is my little partner constantly and will jump in my lap throughout the day, purring up a storm. She carries her toys in her mouth around the house and it’s so cute. Her favorite toy is a fuzzy spring toy, she carries it everywhere and I find it in our bed often. She has the cutest little meow. Clara likes to play with her now. Stardust tolerates her cuddles and occasionally lets her chase him around. She is exactly what I needed to help heal my heart I still miss Cuey terribly but Ouija is keeping her spirit alive. I have no doubt that they would have been best friends."

It was such an honor to get to play a part in this very special adoption! We are so grateful to our incredible supporters for making our rescue work possible!
