Apple

We are absolutely thrilled to share some uplifting news that feels like the universe conspired to create a perfect ending to a challenging journey!

Apple was rescued from an impoverished area of Memphis when he was just a kitten and we soon learned that he had a painful, congenital condition called eyelid agenesis. His eyelids did not fully form during development leaving him unable to blink and causing his eyes to be dry, painful and prone to corneal ulceration. Since his case was severe, he needed expensive eyelid reconstruction surgery and thanks to the generosity of our followers and help from Frankie's Friends, we were able to fund the two-part surgery at the Mississippi State Veterinary School Clinic.

Now, here's where the magic truly unfolded. During Apple's initial evaluation, a serendipitous moment occurred when a 4th-year vet student named Brooke was doing her ophthalmology rotation that day and was assigned to Apple.

From that moment, a beautiful connection blossomed, and it was clear that fate had intervened. Brooke fell head over heels in love with Apple and soon applied to adopt him!

Apple had his final post-surgical recheck at Mississippi State in December 2023 and with the surgeries declared a great success and his recovery complete, he went home for good with his new mom, who will soon be a full-fledged veterinarian.

What a testament to the power of compassion, the kindness of our incredible community and the guiding hand of something greater than ourselves! We are thrilled that Apple has the opportunity for a happy life free of pain and filled with love!
