Wellington

Purrfect Match received a call about Wellington from a woman in tears.  One weekend in December 2023, this pitiful black cat marched right into her kitchen through an open back door.  He was a thin, unkempt, stinky unneutered male with a horribly misaligned jaw from some previous trauma, but despite all of this he had the most loving personality.  The kind woman took pity him, keeping him safely inside for the weekend and taking Wellington to her vet first thing Monday morning.  She hoped to get him fixed up and keep him as a family pet, but when she learned that Wellington was FIV+ and needed expensive jaw reconstruction surgery, it was more than she could handle.  She could not fathom having to euthanize this special cat who had suffered so much and that's when she made the teary phone call to Purrfect Match Cat Rescue pleading for help.

His misaligned jaw

We quickly agreed to assume responsibility for Wellington's care and scheduled a consult with our ortho specialist right away.  Wellington had surgery the following week to repair the jaw injuries to the extent that they could be and then went home with one of our experienced medical fosters for recovery and after care.  The injury was too old to be completely repaired, but Wellington is now able to eat just fine (in fact we are having to monitor his intake since he's to the point of pudge!) and he's happy and thriving.

And the best part of the story is that Wellington was recently adopted to the most fabulous home!!  Chris and Liza live in Wellington, FL (how coincidental is that!) and they've not only been followers of our rescue for years but are also parents to three Purrfect Match cats.  They have a soft spot for black cats and "special" cats - two of their Purrfect Match adoptees are amputees.  When they saw Wellington's story, they immediately contacted us to ask if a long-distance adoption would be possible.   We were absolutely thrilled at the prospect of Wellington going to such loving and devoted parents and we began making plans for Welly's trip to his forever home.  Last weekend, PM volunteer and Welly's former foster mom Vickie flew to South Florida with her precious cargo and he is now home for good!  Liza says:

" Welly has settled in like he’s lived here forever! He was snuggling in bed this morning "

We are incredibly happy that this deserving cat will be pampered and adored for the rest of his life
